I went back to older versions of the snapshot, and found that none of
the snap_31_1999* patches newer than snap_31_19990329.diff.gz worked
without some kind of error. It looks like some of the diffs were done
against files that are not part of 3.1-release. For example, snap_31_19990408
has diffs of usb files vs. 3.2-release. The more recent the patch, the
more errors I encountered. Can someone with a current newconfig tree
do a diff against a pure 3.1-release?

I picked up the files via cvsup. Can I apply the top of the cvs
tree to 4.0-current, or there a specific tag I should use?

I can work with either 3.1 or 4.0, so I'd prefer to use whichever one
will be easier to keep in synch with other developers. I do need the
ability to build an assortment of binaries (but not necessarily the whole
release).

Thanks,
